Welcome to Wine Country Craftsman We specialize in creating tables, furniture and art out of 60-100 year old retired grape vines from California's premiere wine growing region.
These retired grapevines have brought joy to generations of wine drinkers. Though their winemaking days are behind them, their distinctive character lasts on. Decades of careful cultivation combined with the vines natural tendency to create their own whimsical chaos yields striking compositions.
With some careful shaping and finishing, each piece becomes a work of art suitable for warming the heart of a true wine lover. After its retirement from wine production, each piece is pruned by hand to reveal, preserve and promote the essence of its form. In a process that takes over a week, the vine visits a series of craftsmen for finishing.
The result speaks for itself. Each vine has its own character, some seeming to rest in serene meditation, some to dance in playful glee. Look. Touch. The warmth of the wood invites your fingers to trace contours, follow branches, contemplate the flow of life which took a century to express itself in the shape you see before you.
Combined into a table, these limbs create new shapes with every new angle, beckoning freshly in rich play of dimensions. Like a fine wine, the tables are rich, complex and always offer something new to the senses. What better way to honor your wine? Serve it on a work of art that celebrates the natural forces that created the grape.

Hello! I'm your pal, Val. I'm an ex-Executive Chef whose worked in the food industry for 16 years and just got tired of slowly killing myself at my job. So I joined WCC where I get to work with artists such as myself who love what they do and have a good time doing it. More about me: squirrels make me giggle, it's rare to see me NOT smiling or laughing. I love live music and concerts, I love helping people, and of course the quintessential long walks on the beach. Which I can do now since I just moved from Chico, CA to Paso Robles. WAY closer to the ocean!
Tinkering on stuff, fishing, I like to go 4 wheeling. The big wine bot brought me here and I want to own my own company someday.
I am a huge Red Sox fan! I enjoy building rapport with clients and co-workers. I have played and coached lots of sports. My favorite movie is "Airplane". I have two boys - 22 and 18. I used to sail a lot and would like to start again. I can't wait to have fun woodworking again!
I got a "Real Power Tool Shop" for my 9th birthday and never looked back!
Other hobbies include hiking with my new puppy, Archer, star gazing, and my real passion, Full Contact Barrel Head Frisbee Golf!
Matt was born at a young age; due to an unfortunate lack of radiation exposure or chemical spills he has yet to develop superpowers.
Ever since my dad introduced me to welding, that’s all I have truly wanted to do… that and anything to do with sharks. I’m thankful to finally be welding in a shop full of laughter.
Viscount? Exiled Jarl?
I didn’t know I had a title but I’m hoping it has a ring of nobility and doesn’t translate to “Goon #9” or “Barrel taker aparter in training”. – Hobbies include illustration, photography, astronomy, cooking, reading, motorcycles, more reading, questionable internet searches, deleting browser history and the occasional delusion of grandeur. The mountains always trump the beach, books over movies, coffee beats alcohol, dogs eclipse cats and my kids top everyone else. Even if they don’t always clean their rooms and constantly spill food on the couch. *sigh* It’s always something sticky too. Why couldn’t it be dry crumbs just once? I’ve never been bored a day in my life.
I work full time and go to school part time. There are malicious rumors than insinuate that I sigh and can be seen leaning on various things in the shop. These are lies! I yawn a lot from all the hard work I do and if I don’t hold down the equipment with my body then it might all float away!
